What You've Been Missing

Hopefully, you've been coming to our programs. If not, here's some of what you've missed lately:

"Pac-Man Tournament: Teen Read Program"
During this program, teens participated in a Pac-Man Tournament as part of our Teen Read Week Celebration of Books with Bite! Everyone left a winner as all our participants received a Teen Read Week cup or water bottle packed with lots of goodies! We also had bookmarks to encourage voting for the Teens' Top Ten and tickets for the TRW party at ImaginOn.

"No Names: A Workshop for Socially Conscious Teens"

The first half of this workshop included a discussion about what bullying is and how something as simple as name calling can be extremely hurtful. There were discussions about how it feels to be bullied and called names and vice versa. We also talked about why some people are motivated to intentionally hurt others. The second half of this workshop included a presentation from Time Out Youth! We heard from three courageous teens who told their coming out stories and also gave us insights into their lives as LGBTQ teens. The speakers answered many questions that the participants had in addition to addressing important issues such as homophobia.

Don't want to miss any more of our amazing programs? Then be sure to check this blog as much as you check your MySpace or Facebook page!

Book Displays

Next time you're at Freedom, be sure to check out our book displays in the Teen Zone!

Right now, there is a special Banned Books Week display

that I will keep up for a few more weeks
just because I want you to read a book
that was either challenged or banned in the last year!

Our September (Celebrate Your Freedom to Read) display is officially down,

and October (Celebrate Books with Bite) is up.

This display has a variety of books with bite!
They could be about technology (byte...written in e-mails or IMs),
vampires (bite...vampires, bite, you get it) ,
food (bite...eating...cooking)
or they could be about how biting reality can be!

More info to come on Teen Read Week (October 12-18), so check back soon!
